Attorney Dennis O. Shillen was recently recognized by the Woodstock Lodge No. 31 Free Masons of Vermont for 25 years of devoted service to the fraternity. The fundamental purpose of Freemasonry is to make “better men out of good men,” strengthening an individual man’s character, improving his moral and spiritual outlook, and broadening his mental horizons.
But beyond the focus on individual development and better membership in the community, Freemasonry is deeply involved in helping all people. In Vermont, the fraternity has been in the forefront of charitable giving and community service. Through its charitable fund – Masonic Charities of Vermont, Inc. – the Grand Lodge of Vermont has donated over $60,000 every year to a wide array of Vermont-based charities.
